Listening to Soundscape: an Interspecies Collaboration

Have you ever thought about what a plant sounds like?

Would you like to take a moment’s pause to hear the earth around you?

What would it be like if musicians and plants could compose songs together?

Join us at the Divinity Farm at 5:30 PM this Friday, November 3rd for a chance to connect with the earth through your ears.

We’ll have listening stations for you to hear some of the inner rhythms of plants translated by devices into digital music, as well as a community concert with musicians from Institute of Sacred Music playing their beautiful instruments alongside the plant music. We’ll also have a reflective discussion with key input from voices across our fields. There will be plenty of food and drink, and a warm fire to keep our contemplative conversation and inter-species jamming going throughout the evening.

All are welcome at the event. If you have the following, please bring them:

-smartphone with headphones
-musical instruments to jam along
-a mug, plate, and utensils to enjoy the food and drink
-warm clothes
-an open mind

This is an interdisciplinary collaboration between The Divinity School, The School of Forestry and Environmental Studies, and the School of Art. We are grateful to have support from Yale Environmental Humanities, The Institute of Sacred Music, The Peabody Center for Humans and Nature, the Coalition for Agriculture Food and the Environment, the Ethnobotany Student Interest Group, the Forum for Religion and Ecology at Yale, Yale Faith and Environment Working Group, The Divinity Farm, and Data Garden.

If you are interested in helping us record the event in any way, or have any questions, please reach out to us!
