Classical India: Lecture Demonstrations on South Indian Music & Dance
Sisira Gorthala – Bharatnatyam
Sisira Gorthala will be hosting a lecture-demonstration and workshop in the Morse-Stiles Dance studio. Bharatanatyam is a South Indian Classical Indian dance set to Carnatic music form that is thousands of years old, finds its origins in what is known as the sixth Veda of the Natya Shastra (Hindu religious text). It is a highly stylized with endless gestures and a beautiful form of storytelling. Learn some neat rhythms, take turns acting the part of a evil king who strokes his mustache in…evil, and come to be immersed in an ineffable tradition of dance.
Refreshments will be served.
