The Quiltmaking Project
Cupcake Study Break
Location is wheelchair accessible
The Inter-Relations Collaborative commissioned renowned artist Faith Ringgold to design a Peace Story Quilt inspired by the Peace Book constructed in collaboration with NYC
students, ages 8-19 post 9/11. During a series of master classes, Ms. Ringgold mentored 50 Peace QuiltMakers on transferring their 9/11 peace images from hard copy to canvas. The Peace Story Quilt, composed of three panels, each measuring 72”x 50,” was completed for the 5th anniversary of 9/11.
IRC hosts Quiltmaking projects at various campuses, where students from various programs are brought together to create inspirational pieces that are then displayed on their own campus and help create dialogue, cross-cultural connections and foster community among the student body. You do not need sowing experience, since we will be painting pieces of canvas. Art, food and friends: what could be more fun?
