Ardis Butterfield is Professor of English 8in the Department of English Language and Literature at University College London. Her Research covers the literatures and music of France and England from the thirteenth to the fifteenth centuries, with a special interest in Chaucer and cross-channel linguistic identities, medieval bilingualism, and city writing. Her work on continental and insular vernacular manuscripts is currently focused on the lyrics in England, in which sh4e is exploring the potential of song to suggest new ways of understanding how texts and melodies circulated through writing, memory, and performance in the medieval period
