Please join us for a lunchtime discussion with Yale American Studies and Ethnicity, Race and Migration Assistant Professor, Birgit Brander Rasmussen as she discusses “Occupying Literacy: Whiteness and the Possessive Investment in Writing.” Birgit Brander Rasmussen’s work focuses on race, writing, colonialism, and American Literature. She recently completed a book manuscript entitled Queequeg’s Coffin: Indigenous Literacies and the Making of Early American Literature (Duke University Press, 2011)
Critical Encounters: Conversations in American Studies highlights new scholarship in the field of American Studies, bringing together Yale faculty and graduate students as well as other scholars and artists to present work in progress and promote interdisciplinary conversations around the diverse aspects of the American experience locally, nationally, and globally.
