Satan at Large: Tyranny and Slavery in Paradise Lost and its Romantic Readers

North Eastern Milton Seminar presents: Mary Nyquist, Professor of English, University of Toronto. Areas of special interest to her include early modern literature (transatlantic colonialism, political theory, gender); literature of revolution (mid-seventeenth century England and the 1790’s); post-colonial literature and critical race theory; politics and poetic form (early modern, modern and contemporary). She is the author of a number of several influential essays on John Milton, which are being brought together in a collection likely to be published by Cambridge University Press; has co-edited with Margaret Ferguson Re-Membering Milton: New Essays on Texts and Traditions (Routledge, 1988) and with Feisal Mohamed Milton, Historicity and Questions of Tradition: Past and Present Essays by Canadians (University of Toronto Press, forthcoming).
